Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Three entomopathgenic fungi, Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium brunneum, and Isaria fumosorosea were evaluated for their compatibility with six surfactants. The surfactants are certified to comply with the U.S. National organic standards and are permitted to be used in organic production systems. The fungi were evaluated in two common propagule forms, solid-state produced conidia and liquid-media produced blastospores. The results show most of the surfactants are compatible with the fungi at a high surfactant concentration (2% w/v). In general, the conidia showed a higher susceptibility (greater reduction in spore germination) to the surfactants than the blastospores under these conditions. This study provides a convenient starting point for choosing adjuvants for developing organic biopesticide formulations.
