Technical Abstract: Performance measures and criteria are essential for model calibration and validation. This presentation will include a summary of one of the papers that will be included in the 2014 Hydrologic and Water Quality Model Calibration & Validation Guidelines Special Collection of the ASABE Transactions. The goal of this special collection is to synthesize current and widely practiced model calibration and validation procedures for hydrologic/water quality models. In this work, papers in the ASABE special collection on model use, calibration, and validation and other relevant papers from the peer-reviewed literature were synthesized with respect to performance measures and performance criteria. This includes reported ranges of values and corresponding performance ratings for the performance measures used and components simulated by models in the previous special collection. These findings were used to establish guidelines for model calibration and validation.
