Interpretive Summary: Biodiversity data can have a major impact on the ability to detect newly invasive insects in an area by providing a basic knowledge of the native species already occurring in that area. As invasive insects can cost millions of dollars annually to control, periodically collected biodiversity information is valuable in minimizing these costs through maintaining baseline data and rapid detection of invasives. Herein we report on a new native species of wasp that attacks wood feeding beetles. This new wasp was recovered as part of a biodiversity survey of Joshua Tree National Park, and represents a significant expansion of the range of this wasp genus. This information will be used by ecologists, biodiversity researchers, and other researchers interested in the faunistics of arid lands.

Technical Abstract: A new species, Paramblynotus delaneyi (Hymenoptera: Liopteridae), is described and characters separating it from the Nearctic species P. zonatus Weld and P. virginianus Liu are discussed. A discussion of the insect biodiversity survey at Joshua Tree National Park is provided.
