Citation: Woodley, N.E. 2012. Revision of the southeast Asian soldier-fly genus Parastratiosphecomyia Brunetti, 1923 (Diptera, Stratiomyidae, Pachygastrinae). ZooKeys. 238:1-21.

Interpretive Summary: Many species of soldier flies are beneficial to agriculture in that their larvae help to decompose plant material, dung, and decaying animal matter, although a few species are known to attack living plants, such as grass roots. This publication provides a review of a group of soldier flies from Asia, providing a description of two new species, identification aids to all four known species, and illustrations of diagnostic features. This work will enable scientists, quarantine workers such as those in APHIS, and others concerned with flies to identify and correctly name these insects.

Technical Abstract: The genus Parastratiosphecomyia Brunetti is revised with the description of two new species: P. freidbergi Woodley, sp. n. from India and P. rozkosnyi Woodley, sp. n. from Laos and Thailand. All four species in the genus are illustrated and a key to species is provided. Type localities of previously described are briefly discussed.
