Technical Abstract:
‘Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum’ (CLso) is associated with Zebra Chip disorder of potatoes. In this study, a panel of eight simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers was developed and used to characterize CLso isolates obtained from ZC-affected potato plants grown in the United States and Mexico. Multilocus SSR markers effectively detected genetic variation among CLso isolates. Genotypic assignment analysis identified two major lineages of CLso in North America. Structure analysis failed to identify haplotypic patterns associated with geographical proximity or host. This genetic marker typing system will advance knowledge of CLso epidemiology and facilitate management of ZC disease.
