Interpretive Summary: The Third International ISHS Symposium on plant genetic resources occurred as Symposium 12 of the International Horticulture Congress in Lisbon, in August 2010. This symposium lasted4 days and emphasized new tools in plant genetic resource management. Six speakers gave invited presentations, and 30 oral presentations, 73 short orals (the new 5 minute format), and 166 posters were given by international scientists. In addition, the Underutilized Pome Fruit Crops (Seminar 7) manuscripts were combined with those of S12 for a total of 275 abstract submissions at Lisbon. The total attendance was estimated to be about 300 over course of the 4 days.For Volume I, Invited speakers discussed the development of "New Tools for Conservation and Management," "Alternative Preservation Technologies," "Molecular Markers in Conservation Management," and "Conservation of Underutilized Crops." Volume 1 included 58 manuscripts.
