Technical Abstract: A family of compounds starting with potentially bio-based methyl oleate have been synthesized through a variety of chemical methods. Grandpa EMO (Epoxidized Methyl Oleate) is the most well represented in terms of ancestors, but other catalytic cousins are also presented. Featured material on aunt Ether, as well has her sister Ester, detail this pair's ability to reduce the friction between parts. This contrasts little Ketal (or is that little Acetal?) and its desire to become more like his mentor, brother Ketone. Finally, the whereabouts of the mysterious, Mr. dioxophospholane, who occasionally looks out over the reaction, only to disappear again, are the subject of conjecture.
