Interpretive Summary: This is an opinion editorial piece about the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS). It describes the active role that the ISHS takes in bringing scientific information to people throughout the world. The society holds periodic symposia on 10 different crops and 14 different cross-commodity disciplines. Membership in this society has been increasing over the past decade despite the poor economic downturn. The attendence and activities of the 2010 International Horticultural Congress in Lisbon are described.
