Interpretive Summary: Methods are required that can rapidly and accurately distinguish between related North American species of the Orius genus that have similar morphology. DNA barcoding has been proposed as a molecular means of identifying organisms. To facilitate development of this technology, species specific DNA sequences representing the internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS-1) from the18S ribosomal RNA gene of Orius insidiosus, Orius pumilio and Orius tristicolor were identified and the DNA sequences submitted to the GenBank database (National Center for Biotechnology Information). These were given the GenBank Accession numbers GU214726 for the ITS-1 of Orius insidiosus, GU214727 for the ITS-1 of Orius tristicolor and GU214728 for the ITS-1 of Orius pumilio.
