Technical Abstract: The maternally inherited intracellular bacterium, Wolbachia pipientis, induces reproductive alterations in host arthropod populations such as male-killing, feminization, parthenogenesis induction (PI, or reproduction without males) and cytoplasmic incompatibility. Here we report that PI in Mexican Odontosema anastrephae (Hymenoptera: Figitidae) parasitoids of Anastrepha spp. fruit flies is caused by novel Wolbachia strain infection. In addition, we discuss ongoing cytogenetic and genomic studies using O. anastrephae as a model to elucidate the mechanisms behind Wolbachia PI
