Interpretive Summary: Data tables summarizing dietary intakes of the U.S. population can readily be used by government groups, nutrition researchers and the general public. The Food Surveys Research Group of the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center has analyzed dietary data from the What We Eat in America (WWEIA), National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2006 and released 8 new tables that add to the 28 tables already published. The new tables report the distribution of snack occasions and meal patterns for 21 age/gender groups throughout the life cycle as well as by race/ethnicity and income. Race/ethnicity groups include white, black, and Mexican-American. Income data are reported as annual family income, as well as a percentage of the Federal poverty threshold. Technical Abstract: The Food Surveys Research Group of the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center analyzed dietary data from the What We Eat In America (WWEIA), National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2006 and released 8 new tables that add to the current series of 28 data tables already published for the 2-year survey release. The additional tables provide population estimates on the distribution of snack occasions and the distribution of meal patterns. Estimated percentages and standard errors are displayed for 21 age/gender groups throughout the life cycle as well as race/ethnicity and income categories. Race/ethnicity groups include white, black, and Mexican-American. Income data are reported as annual family income, as well as a percentage of the Federal poverty threshold. In WWEIA, NHANES, dietary intakes are collected using the USDA 24-hour dietary recall method: the 5-step Automated Multiple Pass Method. Each year data are collected from a nationally representative sample of 5,000 individuals and released at 2-year intervals.
