Interpretive Summary: We provide the name and description of two mason bee species (Osmia) that are new to science. These species are found in the states of Arizona, New Mexico, and Sonora, and are primarily found in an ecoregion within these states characterized by oaks and pines in the Sierra Madre Mountains. Technical Abstract: The new species Osmia (Melanosmia) splendida n. sp. and Osmia (Acanthosmioides) palmula n. sp. are described and figured, with additional comments on distribution and biology. |
