Interpretive Summary: Metabolic syndrome is a set of metabolic disorders that includes type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, and hypertension that increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. In the United States 47 million people suffer from this syndrome and this number is likely to increase due to the rising numbers of obese people. Studies have shown that blueberries have several activities that improve the human health. In this review the effects of blueberries on some metabolic disorders are discussed.

Technical Abstract: Metabolic Syndrome is a cluster of metabolic disorders that increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Type 2 diabetes, elevated blood pressure, and atherogenic dyslipidemia are among the metabolic alterations that predispose the individual to several adverse cardiovascular complications. The health benefits of blueberries have been widely explored. Thus, in this review some of the effects of blueberries on metabolic syndrome are discussed.
