Citation: Presley, D., Tatarko, J. 2009. Principles of Wind Erosion and its Control. Kansas State University Extension Publications. MF-2860.

Technical Abstract: Nearly sixty years after the Dust Bowl ended, wind erosion continues to threaten the sustainability of our nations' natural resources. This publication presents a review of the current state of wind erosion science by describing the problem of wind erosion, the physical basis of wind erosion processes, and control systems that emphasize farming systems which target a goal of zero soil loss from wind erosion. It is important that the physical principles be well understood in order to effectively apply systems to prevent soil movement in the field. If the principles are understood, then land managers can better understand the why, when, and where of designing wind erosion control systems for individual situations. This publication was designed for NRCS personnel, producers, and other conservation partners nation-wide and around the world.
