Technical Abstract:
The peer review process as it relates to scientific publications in entomological journals is facing a number of serious issues that must be addressed. Among those issues are the increasing submissions from international authors writing in English as a second or third language, manuscripts lacking scientific quality that are routinely sent out by editors for peer review, the increasing unwillingness of many researchers to participate fully in the peer review process, and the declining pool of reviewers from which editors can call on for a review. Problems with plagiarism are becoming evident and many journals have been victims of plagiarism in the last few years. We describe some of the problems we are confronting and offer some potential solutions.
