Technical Abstract: An insect-susceptible, orange-fleshed check cultivar (‘SC1149 19’), two insect-resistant check cultivars (‘Ruddy’ and ‘Sumor’), and 26 plant introductions (PI) from the National Plant Germplasm System, sweetpotato collection, Griffin, GA, were evaluated for insect resistance in replicated field trials at Charleston, SC. Twenty-two sweetpotato genotypes had a significantly higher percentage of uninjured roots and a significantly lower WDS (Wireworm-Diabrotica-Systena) rating than the the susceptible check cultivar (‘SC1149 19’). Twenty-four genotypes had significantly lower percentage of infestation by grubs and sweetpotato weevils than did ‘SC1149-19’. However, none of the genotypes had a significantly lower infestation by sweetpotato flea beetle than the susceptible check.
