Technical Abstract: Proteomics can be defined as the study of the entire proteome, the proteome being the expressed compliment of the genome. Proteomics aims to understand gene function and molecular processes of the living cell through the study of expressed proteins. A review of the literature suggests proteomics in aquaculture research is at an advanced infancy stage. The primary limitation to using proteomics is the relative paucity of available protein sequence data. This presentation will cover the limitations of using proteomics and provide insight into how proteomics may be applied to aquaculture research.
