Technical Abstract: Our laboratory is focused on discovering and engineering new enzymes that hydrolyze lignocellulosic biomass. In this presentation, I will discuss the metagenomic DNA approaches that we use. We collect samples of microorganisms from the environment and isolate the DNA from the entire population. This material is used to create genomic DNA libraries. We screen these libraries for desired activities. Activity assays and expression constructs that were specifically designed for high throughput screening will be described.
