Technical Abstract: Seed yield is both the most important soybean breeding objective and the most challenging. The increase in the number of breeders and the increasing application of technology has done little to increase the rate of yield improvement over the past 20 years, but current rapid changes in technology and our expanding knowledge of soybean genetics have the potential to significantly change yield progress in the future. Positive future changes are dependent on successfully combining basic genetic information with efficient and effective phenotypic selection in a diverse gene pool.
