The euonymus leaf-notcher, Pryeria sinica Moore (Lepidoptera: Zygaenidae) - alive and well in Fairfax County, Virginia. News of the Lepidopterist's Society. 50(100):96-97. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Pryeria sinica Moore, a species native to the eastern Palearctic, was first detected in North America in 2001, where the conspicuous, gregariously-feeding larvae were noticed on ornamental Euonymous (Celastraceae) in a residential area of Fairfax County, Virginia. Although the species was moderately common in 2001-2004, it went unnoticed in 2006-2007. This year (2008) it was found to be abundant in Fairfax County, near its original site of detection. We report biological observations supported by images of adults taken in the field. |
