Interpretive Summary: This brief taxonomic note corrects the name of a yeast genus that had previously been used for a mold genus. Change of the genus name from Naumovia to Naumovozyma prevents confusing two separate groups of fungi, which benefits scientists and biotechnologists who rely on correct names for proper identification of species.

Technical Abstract: The genus Naumovia Kurtzman was described in 2003 (FEMS Yeast Res. 4:240) and included descriptions of the two species N. castellii and N. dairenensis. It has now been recognized that Naumovia Kurtzman is a younger homonym of Naumovia Dobrozr. (1928) (Dothideomycetes), and is therefore illegitimate. For this reason, the following nomenclatural corrections are proposed: Naumovozyma Kurtzman, nom. nov., to replace Naumovia Kurtzman (2003) nom. illeg.
