Technical Abstract: The 2007 regional sweetpotato breeding lines from the National Sweetpotato Collaborator’s Group were evaluated for reaction to southern root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) race 3 in a greenhouse test at the U.S. Vegetable Laboratory, USDA, ARS, Charleston, SC. Four replicates of five field grown cuttings per entry were planted in a randomized complete block design in steam-sterilized 3 sand: 1 soil (vol : vol) benches on 6 Sept. 2007. Each cutting was inoculated with approximately 3,000 M. incognita race 3 eggs at planting. Roots were lifted and scored for root galling and egg mass production (1 = no galling or egg mass production; 5 = greater than 80% of root system galled or covered with egg masses) on 2 Nov. 2007. All check cultivars performed as expected. Six regional lines were highly resistant (HR), similar in reaction to Ruddy (HR-Check). Four regional lines were susceptible (S), similar in reaction to Beauregard (S-Check).
