Technical Abstract: EBU/PS blends of varying compositions were investigated using TGA, MDSC, and FTIR-PAS methods. The goal of the investigation was that of probing for the presence or lack of intermolecular interactions between the two polymers. The TGA investigation showed at least one blend composition with better thermal stability than either of the neat polymers. MDSC investigation showed a single Tg for all blends that showed very weak dependence on blend composition. FTIR-PAS investigation showed a small shift to lower wave number in the carbonyl absorbance peaks of EBU in the 50/50 EBU/PS blend. These results seem to suggest the existence, though weak, of intermolecular interactions in EBU/PS blends.
