Technical Abstract: This book chapter by Neil Heather and Guy Hallman, in “Pest Management and Phytosanitary Trade Barriers,” CABI Press, reviews the history and current status of cold as a phytosanitary treatment and makes recommendations for future research. The recent problems with Mediterranean fruit fly in Clementine citrus fruits from Spain is discussed. The influence of factors such as cool-down time on efficacy is addressed and combinations using cold and another treatment are covered. Many examples of cold treatment protocols are given.
