Technical Abstract: Given that the role of the somatotropic axis (e.g. growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor I) in yellow perch growth is uniquely unresolved, and the interplay of sex steroids with the somatotropic axis unknown, research efforts are focused in this area. To accomplish this, we will isolate and purify growth-regulating hormones in addition to cloning and characterizing novel genes associated with enhanced growth in yellow perch. Progress in this area will be reported.
