Technical Abstract: This chapter updates how the registration and commercialization of baculoviruses have been growing over the last decade. The information reflects the need for new insecticides, which could fit better in integrated pest management (IPM) and organic cropping systems, and identifies alternative products to control pests that have been developing resistance to chemical insecticides. It is unique because it not only talks about products in the United States and Europe, but also around the world and explains how baculoviruses fit in classic biological control programs as a result of horizontal and vertical transmission. The different approaches for application and dissemination of the virus relative to enviromnental conditions are described. The intended audience includes growers, researchers, and students in Mexico and Latin America who are interested in IPM programs and biological control strategies.
