Technical Abstract:
The relationship of classifying accessions in the Crotalaria genus using genetic and biochemical data is unknown. We report the first study using genetic (SSRs) and biochemical data (including % dry matter, % ash, % protein, % fat, and % total dietary fiber) to determine trends among 13 C. juncea and 1 C. retusa genotypes. Phylogenetic analysis using genetic and biochemical data partitioned accessions into three individuals and five main groups, and were able to distinguish and identify trends for those accessions with high versus medium as well as low quantities of the various biochemicals. Morphological comparisons will be ascertained also to verify trends among these Crotalaria accessions.
