Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Maize Genetics and Genomics Database (MaizeGDB) is the community resource for maize data and can be accessed online at http://www.maizegdb.org. To enable an understanding of the more technical aspects of the project, here we illustrate the breadth of information made available through MaizeGDB, convey the method by which information is curated and made accessible, relate how the database infrastructure was built and is currently maintained, and explain the machine architecture(s) and schema in detail. How each copy of the database is utilized is illustrated, and standard operating procedures employed at MaizeGDB are described.
