Use of competitive exclusion cultures and oligosaccharides. Direct-Fed Microbial, Enzyme & Forage Additive Compendium. 8:34-39. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Great potential exists for manipulating the gastrointestinal microflora in production livestock and poultry to improve feedstuff utilization, production efficiency and reduce intestinal colonization by pathogenic microorganisms. To unlock this potential a complete understanding of the fundamental aspects associated with these microbes is needed if progress is to be made in the future. This overview will focus on the use of competitive exclusion cultures, soluble sugars and oligosaccharides. |
