Technical Abstract: Clover yellow vein virus (ClYVV) is a problematic virus causing the chocolate pod disease of common bean that has been plaguing bean production in the Great Lakes region since the rapid increase of soybean aphid (Aphis glycines) populations in 2000. Resistance to ClYVV is not well understood. We sought to examine UI-31 great northern, Raven black, and other bean genotypes for reaction to multiple strains of the virus using recombinant inbred line populations. Preliminary results indicate Raven and UI-31 have resistance to ClYVV but not to the closely-related Bean yellow mosaic virus. All genotypes with the bc-3 gene for resistance to BCMV were resistant to ClYVV.
