Interpretive Summary: This talk given at the Coachella Valley Table Grape Seminar covers the best cultural treatments, plant characteristics, and production achieved in trials to date. The varieties covered are: Sweet Scarlet, a mid-season red sedless Muscat flavored table grape; Scarlet Royal, a midseason red seedless neutral flavored table grape with large berries; Autumn King, a very late ripening white seedless neutral flavored table grape with very large berries. Several advanced selections were also discussed.
Technical Abstract:
The USDA Agricultural Research Service grape breeding program at Parlier, CA has released three new table grape cultivars, Sweet Scarlet, Scarlet Royal and Autumn King. Sweet Scarlet is a mid-season red seedless grape with Muscat flavor. Scarlet Royal is a mid-season red seedless grape with large berries and neutral flavor. Autumn King is a very late ripening white seedless grape with very large berries and neutral flavor. Patent applications have been made for these varieties. Production practices, yield, and fruit quality are discussed.
