Technical Abstract: This is a review of the book Insect Symbiosis, edited by Bourtzis and Miller. The book covers a range of topics related to mutualistic associations between microbes and insects. Contributed chapters were prepared by some of the top scientists within this field, and many chapters were well written. Unfortunately, there was little synthesis on the topic of insect-microbe mutualisms resulting from the book, and I feel that this field is still wide open for a comprehensive treatment of the subject.
