Technical Abstract:
The invention relates to a system and method for efficient sound-based capture of insects, particularly to a system and method which employ gender-specific sounds of an insect species to attract insects of an opposite gender of the same species. The system has potential for monitoring and control of several different fruit flies with acoustic courtship behaviors, including the medfly, caribfly, Mexican fruit fly, and the melon fly.
