Citation: Lerch, R.N. 2004. Water quality in northern Missouri: The importance of watershed characteristics. We All Live Downstream: The North Fork Salt River Watershed Project. 5(4):6-8.

Technical Abstract: The USDA-ARS and the University of Missouri have researched water quality concerns throughout different areas of the state. Data show that intense monitoring in a small-scale watershed can be representative of a much larger area with similar soils and crop intensity. It also provided a basic understanding of contaminant transport in agricultural watersheds that led to a much broader assessment of the factors affecting water quality across the northern Missouri/southern Iowa region.
