Technical Abstract: The USDA Agricultural Research Service is the in-house research division of the USDA. Within the Agency, research is conducted improve many facets of agriculture and the environment. In the last few months, a reorganization of the research units housed in the Russell Research Center in Athens, GA has occurred. During this reorganization, a new unit, the Egg Safety and Quality Research Unit, was formed. There is now a concerted effort within the Agency to enhance the safety and quality of shell eggs and egg products through research both pre- and post-harvest. The scientists housed in this new unit are: Richard Gast, research leader; Jean Bouldin, Peter Holt, Deana Jones, Randy Moore and Mike Musgrove.
