Interpretive Summary: Longhorned beetles are very important to agriculture and the economy because they damage a variety of plants during their development. Recently, pests such as the Asian longhorn beetle have cost millions of dollars of damage to trees and other agricultural products. This paper provides a new taxonomic summary for a genus which is a pest of herbaceous plants in Mexico and Central America, and whose close relatives are important pests of sunflowers and soybean in the U.S. Three species new to science are described and fully illustrated and an identification key is presented. This study will be important to port identifiers, regulatory personel associated with APHIS-PPQ, and farmers whose crops may be attacked by this genus and its relatives.

Technical Abstract: The lamiine genus Canidia Thomson is redefined with Canidiopsis Dillon and Pseudocanidia Dillon as new synonyms. Three new species from Mexico are described and illustrated: Canidia chemsaki, C. giesberti, and C. turnbowi. The following new synonymies are presented: Canidiopsis similis Dillon 1955 and Canidiopsis hebes Dillon 1955 = Canidia mexicana Thomson 1860; Pseudocanidia cuernavacae Dillon 1955 = Canidia spinicornis Bates 1881; Dectes (Canidia) balteata inapicalis (Tippmann) 1960 = Canidia cincticornis balteatus (Lacordaire) 1872. A key to the eight species and one subspecies is presented.
