Technical Abstract: Root knot nematode can cause serious losses in sugarbeet. From wild beet germplasm, resistance to multiple species of Meloidogyne was identified and backcrossed into sugarbeet germplasm line M6-2. M6-2 is homozygous for resistance and may be useful for nematode resistance research, to produce experimental hybrids, as a source of resistance, and potentially, as a highly efficacious resistance gene against a wide spectrum of root knot nematode species.
