Interpretive Summary: Bone morphogenetic protein receptor type II (BMPR-II) is a member of the transforming growth factor ß (TGFß) superfamily of receptors. TGFß cytokines and their receptors are important cell signaling proteins involved in regulation of growth and differentiation of many tissues and organs. An assay for a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the chicken bone morphogenetic protein receptor type II (BMPR2) gene was developed and the East Lansing backcross reference population was used for linkage analysis with the result that the BMPR2 gene was mapped to chicken chromosome 7. In addition, it was shown that gene location in the human, mouse, and chicken genomes is conserved. The BMPR2 and CD28 genes co-localize on chromosome 2 in human, chromosome 1 in mouse, and chromosome 7 in chicken.
