Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A synthetic method for preparing substituted cinnamoyl-L-malic acids has been developed. This method was used to synthesize sinapoyl-L-malic acid and 5-hydroxyferuloyl-L-malic acid in order to confirm structural assignments of materials isolated from normal and COMT-deficient Arabidopsis.
