Technical Abstract:
Unthrifty Meloidogyne arenaria greenhouse cultures had been maintained on tomato plants in the Beltsville, Maryland, Nematology Laboratory greenhouse. Fungal isolations from second-stage juveniles containing chlamydospores yielded a species in the Moniliales with smooth-walled chlamydospores, stalked adhesive pads, and anastomosing hyphal rings. Caenorhabditis elegans were also trapped. Morphological and ITSrDNA comparisons with published descriptions indicate this is a previously undescribed species with interesting biocontrol potential.
