Technical Abstract: A brief overview of the barley-related research programs within the Cereal Crops Research Unit will be presented, followed by a brief overview of plans and progress in establishing an ARS Genotyping Laboratory. Topics covered will include research on virus diseases of barley, particularly research on virus pathogenicity, host resistance, and the use of viruses as vectors for the evaluation of gene function. A new barley pathology position will be described, and our research program regarding the development of FHB-resistant barley cultivars will be reviewed.
