Interpretive Summary: A new highly productive soybean variety has been developed by USDA-ARS in cooperation with N.C. State University, and to the public. The new variety is called NC-Roy in honor of Dr. Roy Lovorn, the first person to breed soybeans in North Carolina. Research shows that NC-Roy is 8% higher yielding than a standard variety, Boggs, in the East Coast soybean production region. It is also resistant to a disease called mosaic virus. It will grow throughout the mid-south and is most adapted to production areas between 33° and 37° North Latitude.

Technical Abstract: A new soybean cultivar, NC-Roy, has been developed and publicly released by USDA-ARS in cooperation with N.C. State University. It has Group VI maturity and is adapted for soybean production areas between 33° and 37° North latitude. It is 8% higher yielding than the check cultivar, Boggs, in the east coast region where it is the most productive. It is resistant to soybean mosaic virus. Average seed protein and oil concentrations are 426 and 189 g kg-1, respectively, on a dry-weight basis.
