Technical Abstract: Practical examples of insect pheromone synthesis, from our laboratory will be presented. Examples of key reactions in synthetic pathways include: Regiospecific epoxidation (cereal leaf beetle), kinetic vs. thermodynamic control of cycloheptanone dimethylation (Aphthona flea beetles), in situ oxidation/wittig olefination (salt cedar leaf beetle) and preparation of homologating agents (current stem girdler).
