Citation: Deer-Ascough, L.A., Mcmaster, G.S., Ascough Ii, J.C., Peterson, G.A. 1998. Application of generic crop growth model technology to great plains conservation systems. American Society of Agricultural Engineers Meetings Papers. Paper #98-2133.

Interpretive Summary: The Great Plains Framework for Agricultural Resource Management (GPFARM) Decision Support System (DSS) has been developed by the USDA-ARS and Colorado State University to provide crop and livestock management support at the whole farm and ranch level. This paper describes the generic crop growth module contained within GPFARM. Modifications include adaptations necessary for linkage with other GPFARM simulation modules and those needed to better represent Great Plains agricultural conditions, including adjustments for water and temperature stresses. Evaluation of the GPFARM generic crop growth module for Eastern Colorado corn, winter wheat, and proso millet production ins presented in this paper. Based on evaluation results, recommendations are made for additional improvement of the module.
