Interpretive Summary: This is the first report of sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV) in Ecuador, Guatemala and Nicaragua. SCYLV was first identified in the 1990s. In Brazil, it caused economic losses on one commercial sugarcane cultivar; however, its economic impact in most countries is yet unknown. This report further confirms the widespread distribution of SCYLV and emphasizes the potential threat of this virus.

Technical Abstract: Sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV) was found to occur in Ecuador, Guatemala and Nicaragua. The presence of the virus was confirmed by a tissue blot immunoassay using an antiserum specific for SCYLV. This is the first report.
