Technical Abstract: Marek's disease virus is a herpesvirus that causes tumors, neurological disease and death in commercial chickens. The infection is widespread and is capable of causing severe losses. The disease can be controlled by vaccination, but emergence of more virulent strains suggests that current vaccines may not succeed in the future. This chapter provides a comprehensive review of the literature in the field, addressing the properties of the virus, the nature of the disease and methods for diagnosis and control.
