Technical Abstract: This article summarizes the key elements pertaining to postharvest handling and storage of asparagus. It provides guidelines on how to maintain postharvest quality by optimizing harvesting, postharvest handling, and storage conditions. Specifically, the recommendations include prompt pre-cooling to near 0-2 degrees C, constant cold storage at near 0 degree C and 95-99% relative humidity, avoiding exposure to ethylene, and packing the spears in a upright position to prevent tip bending etc.
