Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Knowledge of the relationships among soil and crop parameters is essential for precision farming. Developing this knowledge is not easy because, besides being interrelated, these limiting factors affect crop yield in different ways. Data for grain yield and yield-limiting factors such as crop chlorophyll content and basic soil chemical properties were collected at multiple spatial scales for fields in Korea and Missouri. Using path analysis, the effects of limiting factors on crop yield could be separated into direct effects and indirect effects acting through other factors. Path analysis provided more insight into these complex relationships than did simple correlation or multivariate linear regression analysis.
