Technical Abstract: An illustrated article was written to help Chilean farmers control nuisance flies on livestock and poultry facilities. The use of chemical pesticides was discussed, in particular the ability of flies to develop resistance from overuse and misuse of the same groups of compounds. Emphasis was given to focused use of pesticides in baits, while broadcast spray application was discouraged. The concept of biocontrol was introduced and the beneficial effects of native parasites and predators on fly populations were discussed.
