Technical Abstract: Control of house flies through manure management on livestock and poultry facilities is a fairly new concept to farmers in Chile. Therefore, an illustrated article was prepared to contrast the negative effects of manure mismanagement and the positive effects of good manure management on fly production. Best handling practices and land application techniques were discussed. By making farmers aware of the biology and ecology of nuisance flies and how these flies use animal manures for development, famers can do a better job of fly management with minimal use of chemical pesticides.
